U15 Black - Match Report
A Game Of Two Halves
(Dean Leyland 20/12/2021)
2 Congleton Town FC U15 Black
1 ON 3G Moss Rose
(Match Date: Sunday 19th December 2021)
As with recent weeks Blacks dominated the first 20 minutes of this encounter and should have been in a comfortable lead by half time. As it was they came in at the break with only a 1-0 lead to show for all their attacking endeavour. The goal when it came was a set piece that Porter drilled into the bottom corner after Willcock was fouled outside the area. The half time team talk was all about continuing to play in the same way and to believe and trust in each other as a team. This proved to be good advice from the coach as Moss Rose came out in the second half and dominated the play much in the way Blacks had in the first.
Blacks needed to defend resolutely and a number of players made some vital blocks as Moss Rose continued to press. Leyland, Pipon and Moreton in particular throwing their bodies in front of goal bound efforts. Bird was also a steading hand at the back, often carrying the ball out of defence and setting up counter attacks for Willcock and Mustafa.
One such counter attack resulted in a pass from Mustafa to Porter who jinked into the penalty area and slotted a low shot to the keepers right for 2-0.
Moss Rose came again and with 10 minutes to play got a deserved goal back after a neat finish from their MOTM. The last ten minutes were a tense affair with Blacks defending for their lives as time ran out for the visitors and the game ended 2-1 to the home side. A draw would have been a fair result, but credit to Blacks for sticking to their task.
