U16s - Match Report

TOWNS U16s SHARE THE POINTS

(Liz Greening 28/10/2020)

3    Congleton Town FC U16s
3    Witton Albion

(Match Date: Sunday 25th October 2020)
Congleton Town U16s continued their positive start to the season with a well earned 3-3 draw with Witton U16.

The opening exchanges were equal with both teams coming close to scoring on several occasions. It was that midfield dynamo, Louie Jones who finally opened the scoring when he rammed home an inch perfect cross from the ever dangerous Leo Wilcock. With Jack Holt having a great game up front holding up play and slipping in players making forward runs, it was no surprise that it was he who added the second, lobbing the keeper after a great through ball from Bill Bryce Smith.

The second half saw a spirited fight back from Witton even if their first goal was fortuitous as a fine shot struck the cross bar only to strike goalkeeper Matt Hart and rebound back into the Goal.

Matt Hart who had made some fine saves could do nothing about the second goal, when for the only time in the game, the Congleton midfield switched off and allowed the Witton Centre Forward too much time to hit a fine shot into the bottom corner.

With the game evenly poised with 20 mins to go up stepped Milo James who latched on to another great pass from Max Allon to hammer home an amazing volley across the Witton Keeper into the net.

Congleton were unfortunate to lose one of their key midfield players Bill Bryce Smith due to a nasty injury and as they came under increasing pressure, conceded a free kick just outside the box which Witton converted to make the score3-3.
With minutes to go, Milo James nearly snatched it for Congleton when his right foot shot from 20 yds appeared to be curling into the top corner only to hit the underside of the bar and bounce clear.

The always impressive and commanding George Wassall, Jono Clarke, Bobby Eckersley, Noah Zimmerman and Tyler Whitehurst all deserve a mention for the part that they played in this hard working display.
