Congleton Town U13's White Extend Unbeaten Run

(Phil Smith 18/10/2020)

6    Congleton Town FC U13 White
2    Holmes Chapel Hurricanes White

(Match Date: Sunday 11th October 2020)
Sunday saw Mid Cheshire under thirteen second division league leaders Congleton Town Whites travel to struggling Holmes Chapel Whites, hoping to extend their winning start to the season.
Although full of confidence after their good start to the season, Congleton had to be concerned that they did not have any substitutes with them as they had lost a couple of players on the Friday before who were advised to isolate.
Congleton Town got out of the blocks quickly and were soon in control of the game dominating possession and territory and it was no surprise when they took the lead midway through the first half. A neat interchange of passes on the right-hand side saw Archie Pearce break through the home defence, pulling the ball back from the bye line for the on rushing with Vaughan Bell to side foot past the home ‘keeper.
Congleton soon doubled their lead in similar fashion, with Bell the architect this time dancing past two tackles out on the right wing before centring for Joe Eaton to smash a shot home via the underside of the bar.
Five minutes before half-time Congleton made it three after more good work out wide from Bell, crossing for Will Peterson to tidily finish from close range.
At half time the score was three goals to nil in favour of Congleton Town
Soon into the second half Congleton were knocked out of their stride when they lost Lenny dos Reis with a hamstring injury and without a substitute they were left to play the rest of the game with 10 men.
Even with ten men, Congleton continued to create chances and went four goals up when Peterson won possession in the middle of the pitch before putting a superb pass behind the Holmes Chapel defence for Bell to run on to and finish with aplomb.
Holmes Chapel were not out of it yet though and quickly struck back when a cross to the far post could not be cleared by the visitors’ defence leaving the Holmes Chapel striker to smash the ball home from close range.
Congleton’s nerves were eased when Peterson got his second of the match, when he steered a low cross home, reaching the ball just before the home goalkeeper.
Holmes Chapel then struck back again and it appeared that Congleton were running on empty with ten minutes left having played the second half with a man down, and chances were starting be created at both ends of the pitch.
It was Vaughan Bell who had final say in the game though when he completed his hat-trick with the goal of the game, placing an angled shot over the Holmes Chapel goalkeeper to make the final score Congleton Town White 6 Holmes Chapel White 2.
