U13 White - Match Report

Congleton U13 White Vs Davenham Rangers

(Phil Smith 11/10/2020)

4    Congleton Town FC U13 White
1    Davenham Rangers

(Match Date: Sunday 4th October 2020)
In their second game of the 2020/21 season Congleton Town Under 13 Whites hosted Davenham Rangers with both teams hoping to extend their winning starts to the season.
Congleton started the game on the front foot and quickly started to make chances and it was no surprise when they took the lead midway through the first half when Joe Eaton swung in a corner from the right hand side which was glanced home by Preston Borrow.
Five minutes later Borrow doubled Congleton’s lead, firing in a shot from outside of the penalty area that the visitors goalkeeper got his hands to but couldn’t keep out.
Davenham were not out of the game yet though and should have snatched a goal back when they saw a free kick from outside the penalty area cannon against the cross-bar with follow up effort headed over the bar with the home keeper stranded.
At half time the score was two goals to nil in favour of the home team.
The second half started in much the same manner as the first with Congleton dominating possession and creating a few good chances that were wasted with Davenham having to defend deep, hoping to catch Congleton on the break.
Eventually Congleton scored a well deserved third goal when the ever dangerous Vaughan Bell was played through in the inside right position before calmly slotting home to put the game beyond the reach of the visitors.
Davenham however looked to have made things interesting when they pulled a goal back from a corner, however Congleton restored their three goal advantage when Finn Henderson hit a speculative shot thirty yards out on the left which dipped over the Davenham goalkeeper.
As the game moved into the final minutes both teams were guilty of wasteful finishing with Davenham enjoying their best spell of the game.
The game finished with Congleton running out comfortable winners four goals to 1.
