U12s - Match Report

Quick And Slick

(Rowan Kitton 18/10/2020)

7    Congleton Town FC U12s
1    Hurdesfield Phoenix

(Match Date: Saturday 17th October 2020)
Congleton hosted Hurdesfield Phoenix looking for a similar performance but better result than last week. On a pitch that had just been cut and rolled it was a great opportunity to pass and move the ball quickly. 5 minutes after KO it looked like a fairly evenly matched game with both sides wanting to get the ball down and play. Very often it is a case of who scores first and settles into the game and it was Congleton who scored two in quick succession. The first was very well worked with Archie Jacobs side footing a low cross from Samuel Brightwell. Brightwell then went from provider to scorer to give Congleton some breathing space and relax any nerves that may have been present. The defensive unit of Teague, Sam, Jack, Harry and Eugene were looking strong and more organised and were able to nullify any threat quickly and effectively. The opposition continued to compete as best they could against a side now winning the ball in the centre of the pitch and moving forward through the wide areas with great effect. Following a scramble in the Hurdesfield box the impressive Tom Jeffries drove home Congleton’s third before Sam Brightwell finished neatly after a fine threaded ball from Izak Williams split and turned the defence superbly.
With a couple of minutes before half time still to play Congleton were given a wake up after switching off and losing the ball too easily, gifting Hurdesfield an easy goal to give them hope.
The second half was largely played with all players camped in the opposition half. Hurdesfield were finding it difficult to compete with the determination in midfield and speed in the wide areas. Jayden Hamnett was strong in the tackle and moved the ball quickly and it wasn’t long before Town found their fifth and sixth. Dylan Dale deservedly got his goal after a fine performance and Samuel completed his hat trick using his pace and power. Credit to the opposition as they tried hard to get out of their half and threaten but to no avail. Congleton were hungry for more and it was the tenacious Finlay Robinson who completed the rout to give the team a well-earned victory.
