U15s - Match Report

Good Win For Rovers!

(Matt Winstanley 21/11/2019)

4    Congleton Rovers JFC U15s
1    Sandbach Utd Harriers

(Match Date: Sunday 17th November 2019)
Rainy conditions today and a very very soggy pitch. A tough game was expected and this is how it turned out . There were a couple of early goalmouth scrambles for Rovers which were unlucky not to go in. Rovers kept pressing and Louie has a snap shot at their goal but with not a lot of pace. Then Rovers had 2 quick shots on target in succession. Suddenly a snap shot came off the post after a great save from the Sandbach keeper. Lewis scored the goal from the rebound. The deadlock was broken.

Throughout the game, Sandbach were struggling to clear corners and virtually every corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble. Then there was a great Alfie cross-field ball and Milo shot that narrowly missed. However, soon it was 2-0 when a Lewis speculative shot looped in over the keeper. Right at the end of the half Max missed with an unlucky header. A successful first half!

In the second half, the rain was coming down harder and the centre of the pitch was a quagmire. Soon another goal came from Congleton from a corner which was forced in by our intrepid number 7. It was all looking comfortable until a long range shot from Sandbach sneaked in and at 3-1 Sandbach's confidence was back and they were hungry for more goals. Sandbach were coming back into it more and more, with Congleton working well on the break. It was end to end stuff until Louie was tripped in the area. Penalty. And soon it was 4-1. Game over....

A good result in tough conditions!
