U12 White - Match Report

Congleton U12 White Vs Sandbach United Falcons

(Phil Smith 22/09/2019)

1    Congleton Rovers JFC U12 White
0    Sandbach United Falcons

(Match Date: Saturday 21st September 2019)
In their second game of the 2019/20 season Congleton Rovers Under 12 Whites travelled to Sandbach to take on the Sandbach United Falcons.
Sandbach won the toss and elected to play down hill in the first half hoping to take advantage of the slope early in the game. It was Congleton who took the early initiative though and they pinned their hosts deep into their own territory for the majority of the first half. Chances came and went for Congleton who just couldn’t find the finishing touch for all their good work, with Will Peterson coming the closest when he hit the inside of the post, only to see the ball roll across the goal line into the grateful hands of the Sandbach goalkeeper.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 20th minute when Bodhi Waterhouse pushed the ball to Will Peterson on the edge of the area who prodded the ball into the path of Preston Borrow who calmly slotted past the home goalkeeper.
To emphasise the control the away team was having in the game it wasn’t until nearly the 30th minute when the Congleton goalkeeper had a meaningful touch in the game when he collected a through ball under pressure from the Sandbach striker. At half time the visitors lead by a solitary goal.
The second half started with a fired-up Sandbach on the front foot, with the half-time pep talk still ringing in their ears. Despite the stronger performance in the second half, Sandbach were kept at arms length with chances at a premium, the best opportunity being a cross shot from the left hand side that missed the far post by 18 inches.
The second period was punctuated more with stoppages due to injuries to Congleton players than chances on goal, so much so that the Congleton trainer was busier than either goalkeeper with Congleton’s midfield dynamo Joe Eaton appearing to be the target for most of the rough stuff
As the game moved into the final 10 minutes Sandbach became more desperate in their efforts to find an equalizer, but it was Congleton who looked more likely to get a second goal as they caught Sandbach on the break on a couple of occasions. The final action of the game saw Bodhi Waterhouse hoping to replicate last week’s heroics with a free kick from 20 yards out, but his effort whistled just over the bar. Final score Sandbach United Falcons 0 Congleton Rovers White 1
