U11s - Match Report

Lethargic Rovers

(Rowan Kitton 15/10/2019)

Congleton Rovers JFC U11s  Vs  Holmes Chapel Reds   (Score Withheld)

(Match Date: Saturday 12th October 2019)
Holmes Chapel Huricanes were the visitors for Congleton Rovers home fixture this week. With both sides having come out on top in recent times it was always likely to be a tight game and an opportunity to assess the level of play and any improvements made during the early season.

Congleton were unable to get a grip on the game in the early stages with the opposition working harder and dominating in midfield. Rovers worked hard at times but lacked any direction and purpose. They played with little composure and were kicking rather than passing the ball resulting in very little possession. Unforced errors were made all over the park and it didn’t take long for the visitors to take the lead. Half time couldnt come soon enough as a chance to regroup and refocus was urgently needed.

The second half saw some improvement but still not to the level the boys themselves would expect. Sam Higginson in the centre of the Rovers defence was a real highlight. His imperious display and fierce tackling set him aside from anyone else on the pitch. There was a little more threat from Rovers going forward and 2 goals were scored resulting in a very close scoreline. On this occassion however, the close score didn’t reflect the difference in the display of the 2 sides. Rovers will need to quickly move on and up their game in the coming weeks, which they are more than capable of doing.

Next game is away at Barnton.
