Close Encounter

Congleton Rovers JFC U11s  Vs  Vale Vikings   (Score Withheld)

(Match Date: Saturday 5th October 2019)
Congleton took on local side Vale Vikings away at Back Lane for what is always a very closely fought contest. Today was no different!

Both sides were very evenly matched and the game ebbed and flowed with both sides looking threatening and vulnerable at the same time. Rovers opened the scoring against the run of play with a fine move through the middle of the park and a neat finish by Jayden Hamnett who had a good game throughout. It didn’t take Vale long to reply and it was thoroughly deserved. Vale have a lot of pace going forward and maintained a constant threat during the whole game. Rovers’ usually dominant defence looked shaky and nervous and were struggling to win the first ball.

With half time looming, Rovers were confident moving forward and provided pace and passing accuracy, particularly in the final third of the pitch. The ball was played into the Vale box regularly with chances created but with no reward. Both defences were constantly being put under pressure and it was Vale who succumbed again just before the break.

The second half was no different and it was a matter of when rather than if both teams would score. Rovers gained a 2 goal lead and then were quickly pegged back to just 1. This game had everything and each player gave everything for their team. For all those watching, there was plenty of quality to admire and shakiness to keep the nerves on edge.

The game finished with a 1 goal difference, as seems to be the case when these two sides meet. Both sides can be proud of themselves. The game was played in excellent spirit and it’s certain to be close whenever they meet in future. Well done Rovers and Vale!
