U9s - Match Report

Gene Kelly Would Of Been Proud!

(David Gay 29/10/2019)

Congleton Rovers JFC U9s  Vs  Macclesfield Junior Football Club Boys U9S   (Score Withheld)

(Match Date: Saturday 26th October 2019)
Firstly, super proud of all the lads in blues and yellows on Saturday they took the monsoon conditions in their stride with no complaining, no excuses, they just got on with it. The Blues were first up and managed to get out of the lifeboat just in time for KO. Rovers started well with slick passing and urgency from the off, Macclesfield were a little shell shocked at how well we played in the first ten minutes and couldn’t get out of their own half. That been said the footballing gods were in a mischievous mood and Macclesfield broke away twice and scored two goals. The tables had turned and Rovers were now the one’s shell shocked, they couldn’t believe that they were behind. The game plan didn’t change, and the blues stayed resilient in the way they played, playing in triangles, one/two’s COMPOSURE playing the ball to the closest player and really implementing the drills we have been working on in training. Jayden and Ryhs were fast and put pressure on from the off. Rovers then scored just before HT with a neat passage of play, Josh crossed in from the left and Jayden tucked it away. I would like to add here that the Macclesfield GK was like a young Kasper Schmeichel, he made 4/5 really good saves that would have seen Rovers out of sight.

The second half started well with Rovers equalising quickly through a good strike from Henry(Dougie) that nestled into the corner of the net. Macclesfield then started to come into the game, also playing some great football which was a credit to their coaches, not only the way they played but how they kept them motivated throughout. Macclesfield then scored again only for Rovers to fire straight back, another great cross from Jayden and Josh was on hand to tuck it away. The game was on a knife edge with both teams having chances, Dougie came close and created chance after chance that Rover couldn’t get over the line. Then in the last min of the game Henry played the ball out wide to Josh who tucked inside and calmly slotted the ball past the oncoming GK, this prompted a team huddle and celebration lead by Joshua R who played every min of the game due to Thomas and Danny covering in goal. Joshua won MOTM for his best performance ever in a Rovers shirt, tackles, short passes, long passes down the line, clearance, concentration he was superb, well done Joshua.

Yellows were up next, and the rain was relentless. Its was great to see Louis back in the team after his injury, the yellows have missed his tenacity and pace up front. It was like he had never been away scoring very early in the game with a lovely finish (Floyd). Both teams as in the first game played lovely football, passing, moving, looking up and worked as a team throughout. The Yellows on Saturday had speed and urgency in everything that they did which is exactly what we are looking for. Macclesfield then fired back twice in quick succession before Callum continued his goal scoring form from right back to get Rovers level (a young Andy Robertson did I hear you say) Louis then got his second of the game which was made by some fantastic midfield play by Tom B. Rovers were again in front but again Macclesfield came back into it with two fast goals. This was an end to end contest with both teams putting in 100%, Archie, Jack, Lucas all made some fantastic tackles and played the ball out of defence well, Tommy was outstanding in goal keeping Rovers in the game with numerous saves, keeping his concentration and fully deserved his MOTM. Tommy has been consistently good all season so far. Callum scored again to pull Rovers level before then putting the ball into his own net (can’t claim a hat-trick Cal sorry) Max or twinkle toes again showed off some great skills and played in Tom B to give rovers the lead, Macclesfield equalised before Lloyd (Lucas) scored to round off a brilliant performance.

I will be asking the lads on Wednesday for the one word in this report that means “the state or feeling of being calm and in control of oneself” Clue. It’s the same as last week.

Shout out to the parents on both sides who stood and supported the lads in dreadful conditions.
