Do You Want To Be A Referee?

(Dean Leyland 15/11/2019)
Hi, as I hope you are aware the club are looking at the possibility of developing its own referees going forward. Currently we are looking at this years u13s upwards and are asking all managers to discuss with their players to see who is interested.
A boy can referee from the age of 14 onwards and there is no limit as to how far they can go in the game. The current crop of premier league referees started at grassroots football.
The FA run qualified referee courses normally over a couple of weekends. Once qualified a referee up to the age of 16 can referee games two years below their age, after 16 they can referee any age.
Typically a referee earns in the region of £22 upwards per game.
If the club find enough boys interested then we would look to approach the FA and ask them to run a course for us, which the club would fund. Then we would seek their agreement that we self appoint. The benefit being that we don't have to rely on the FA to appoint a referee for us for home games.
Please pass all this information onto your squad and send me details of any boys that want to give it a go.
We will give those boys that express an interest some u7 to u10 games to referee to see how they like it.
We will of course offer full support and guidance.
Dean Leyland.
